The 4th International Conference WASTES: Solutions, Treatments and Opportunities will take place in Porto, Portugal.
So-called the "Cidade Invicta" (unvanquished city), Porto is one of the most ancient European cities.
It was born and developed from the northern bank of the Douro River during the Middle Ages and since the foundation of Portugal has always played an important role in the kingdom/country destination, being the centre of some of the most important events of Portuguese history.
Nowadays, is the second largest city in Portugal and the capital of its own namesake district.
Surrounded by landscape of rare beauty, Porto combines past and present, historical and contemporary spaces harmoniously. Ancient churches and monuments, such as the “Sé” Cathedral, the Clérigos Tower or the Church of St. Francis, live side by side with the contemporaneity of striking buildings such as Casa da Música (House of Music), Serralves Museum and others.
Besides its heritage and architecture, the city is also known for the cruises in the Douro River, its gastronomy and the universally notorious Porto wine, whose cellars are an attraction for wine lovers from all over the world.
Porto was classified as World Heritage by Unesco in 1996. In 2001, joined Rotterdam as European Capital of Culture, and, in 2014, was awarded Best European Destination by the Best European Destinations Agency.
